Kindergartners and phonetics...we need help.

I have a Kindergartener in 1/2 charter school that teaches The Riggs Institutes: Writing and Spelling Road to Reading and Thinking. He is struggling during test time. He seems to do okay when we do our practice at home. So I am puzzled by the lack of performance on his tests. Is anyone on here familiar with this program? I would love to have some pros and cons or suggestions regarding your experiences with this curriculum. You can either respond to this post of email me directly at: Any help that you have to offer is greatly appreciated?

I'm not sure about exactly what this paticular program is but I wanted to say that if he's doing well at home and just not on tests that maybe he gets nervous during the test time. A lot of kids get 'test anxiety' especially younger kids.

You could try to set up a 'practice test' at home where he's got a certain amount of time to do it. Talk to him about trying to take some deep breaths before test time and not to be nervous. I mean imagine how an adult feels before some sort of testing (most adults aren't used to being tested on anything) and times that by 3 for a small child.

Keep working with him or possibly even try teaching him a different way if you can. Some kids don't learn the same as others, maybe he's just having a difficult time with the program?
