My pants and underwear are wet, but my doctor said when water breaks it's a gush! No gush, just leaking I suppose! I have to change my underwear about 3 times yesterday and once already this morning and my pants once yesterday and once today! Any ideas? I feel like CRAP! Nausea and back pain and alot of pressure, but no regular contractions!

My waters broke at 34 weeks after I'd had a bath. It was the same thing, a very slow leak. I rang the hospital after 45 mins and they got me to come in. Advised my waters had broken but I wasn't in labour. As it was only 34 weeks, they told me that I would have to wait and see what happened as they didn't want me to induce me as it was way too early so they sent me home. I had to go back daily to have the baby's heartbeat monitored to make sure all was ok. No sex, no baths, no swimming etc (not that I felt like any of that). A week later my contractions started and I had a beautiful healthy baby girl the following day. I wouldn't be too worried but would go to the maternity ward at your local hospital maybe for a checkup. Good luck!

Waters breaking doesn't always gush. Have them test the fluid to see what it is!! If you're leaking amniotic fluid you can get an infection after 18 hours they give you antibiotics.

Hi Keyna: I too had the same experience and although I was a nurse, it didn't hit me that I had a leak in my amniotic sac. I didn't share it with the Dr. I should have. When she broke my amniotic sac all I had was a trickle. My first two there was a gush. She looked at me, and then I realized what it was I had been going through. When your fluid leaks out you do have what they call a dry birth. The problem with an opening in the sac is that you can end up with an infection. You could still be in labour if you are having back pain. If your baby is face up instead of down you end up with what they call back labour. Pain is much heavier in your back. If the baby is face up the Dr. will try and manually turn your baby, so it can be delivered properly and easily. Go back to your Dr. which I hope is an obstetrician. Good luck.

call your dr and they will have you checked for amniotic fluid . because if you are leaking and dont get it checked..thats NOT good. So dont take that chance.

With my first two, it was a gush. With my third, it was a trickle... for about 15 hours before I went to the hospital for a schedule check-up and sure enough, my water had broken. You're probably in labor... although this reply is too late!

I hope by now, you have gotten yourself to a doctor or the hospital. I am 53 and at age 23, the same thing was happening to me along with a backache when I was ready to deliver my first child. I never did have any cotractions. I only had "Pit" pains from the pitocin they gave me to bring on the contactions and then she end up being delivered by c-section and we both had an infection because of the leaking from the membranes. Good Luck. let us know how everything works out for you. BTW she is a healthy 30 years old now.

Try doing things you enjoy to keep your mind off it, I had a pregnancy that went one week over due & I thought I was going insane, but I decided to do something fun yet relaxing to keep my mind off of it. The real thing will happen, be encouraged. And good luck to you!

Sometimes it is not a gush, you can have a small hole in your amniotic sac. Also you could have a urinary tract infection. If it were me I would schedual an appointment just in case.

If you haven't already, demand an office visit or go to the ER. It may be urine, but it could signal a leak in the amniotic sack which could be serious. God Bless you!

Hey Keyna! What you are describing could be a "slow leak". I'd call your doctor and get an exam. This could be the beginnings of labor, but it's better to check it out. Good luck!

I have 4 children and have NEVER had a gush. my waters never broke pre birth. They were either broken by the midwife or a minute before the head came out. It sound like an amniotic fluid leak to me too.

Your membranes are likely leaking. That's what happened with mine. I kept wetting my underwear, and was confused, because I thought water breaking was a gush, like you do. If you go to the hospital, they can swab you and test the secretions to see if there's amniotic fluid there. If so, they'll keep you and if you don't go into proper labour (and it sounds like you ARE in proper labour, but back labour), they might induce you. So get thee to the hospital and bring your bag.

I agree- I had the "leak" with my daughter and was scolded for not coming to the hospital when it started. If its amniotic fluid its dangerous to wait because it leaves u and your baby open to infection. I hope you get a 2nd opinion. Good luck!

I would suggest going in to see your doctor immediately or going to the hospital.
You still might need to get checked because your water could be trying to break and you might need help with it.OR could be leaking and very dangerouse. really every pregnancy is different and different reason everytime

GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! It's not always a gush when the water breaks, and it sounds like it's the beginning of labor. Your doc is a bone-head. Go to the hospital, and tell them you think you're in labor.

You definately need to go to the hospital. My guess is it's you AF leaking. I did the same thing with both of my children. No gush that's for sure and no contractions right away either. Better to be safe than sorry. Also if it is you AF leaking than you can get infections if not looked after promptly. Take care.

When my water broke, with two differnt babies, it was not agush, it was a trickle both times. I just knew it was my water. Call the hospital directly. They will have you come in and test the fluid to make sure it's amniotic fluid. If it is amniotic fluid leaking you need to be checked to make sure the cord won't prolapse. I also had no contractions until about 12 hours after my water broke, with the first baby.

Ha, it does NOT have to be a gush of fluid, if the baby's head is down against the cervix, it could be acting as a stopper and you only leak a little when some of the fluid gets' around the "stopper". Good luck, sounds like your baby's ready to come out!

I didn't have contractions. But my water did break. But you could be leaking or maybe it broke when you went to pee. I would make sure that your not leaking cause it could be very dangerous to be leaking.

wear a menstrual pad to soak up the leakage. It does sound like amniotic fluid. The baby's head can stop up the hole so the fluid doesn't gush out it just trickles.

My first labor started with back pain and nausea but no regular contractions until I hit the transition stage. You might want to call your doctor to find out if you are in labor. She will probably have you go in to get checked. If it IS amniotic fluid then if you aren't already in labor they will probably induce you.

[deleted account]

Mine was also such a slow leak that I did not realize what was going on. When I went for my check up they ended up putting me straight into the hospital and inducing me because my fluid was almost all gone and they needed to get my son out. Yaah! You are going to have a baby! Good luck!

how far along are you? it sound slike your water is leaking. ( or you are peeing on yourself, which unfortunately can happen at the end without you having control of it if baby moves a certain way). your dr should nto be brushing it off though. there is a simple swab test they can do, i just had it done recently it takes about 20 min and they can tell you if it was amniotic fluid. call and call and keep bugging them or maybe just go on up to L&D at the hospital and tell them to check you. Your water CAN just leak, it does not have to gush. and if your water breaks you risk infection to the baby if they are notborn in a certain span of time.

Go to the hospital.... now. Your water breaking is NOT always a gush and having your waters broken for more than 24 hours can be dangerous.

Just curious did you call the doctor since this started and he said this to you or did he tell you that in a previous visit trying to prepare you for what to expect? Sometimes doctors will just tell what is the norm or average of what to expect. If you havent called your doctor you should

go to your doctor...most e.r doctors are idiots..believe me i know..when i went into labor with my son they sent me home and their reason for that was b/c i was able to walk and talk so it had to be false labor..but to their surprise i was back the next morning unable to walk and talk and to far dilated to get any drugs i had my son 30 minutes after getting back to the hospital...and naturally too..i broke my own water and pretty much i did everything but catch him..prob..could have done that too..lol..but go to your doctor as soon as you can...believe me you don't want to do the natural thing i swung at a nurse and honestly have no memory of it i was told after the fact by my hubby..i myself thought it was funny but it wasn't so much at the time..i was so out of it from the pain its a wonder i was able to push him out..

I was leaking for two weeks like that and every time I went to be checked it was negative for amniotic fluid. The told me the same thing... untill I brought home a urine sample cup on my own request and managed to catch some of it. It was in fact amniotic fluid. When you are leaking you have a high risk for infection so I was admitted to the hospital on bed rest and ultrasound every 24 hours until my 37 week date where my water did finally break like the big gush they are talking about. My advise is to keep a urine sample container on hand. If you catch it, they would be able to determine if you are in fact leaking amniotic fluie or simply urine. Leaking urine is also a possible side effect of a bladder infection that is bad enough that it could spread to your kidneys. Bring these points up to your OB/GYN... they should agree.

[deleted account]

get checked... I did the same thing and sure enough I was in labor.. Go back to the doctor or hospital. Wish you luck

[deleted account]

Water CAN break two ways. The gush.. which you have had explained, and then there is a HIGH LEAK. which means, the rip in the amniotic sack is up higher. Only a little fluid dribbles out constantly, instead of one huge OMG gush.
Sometimes the water never breaks at all. Any emergency room can test your dribble and tell you if it's amniotic fluid.

they say if you are leaking waters then you should lay down for 15-20 minutes, and then sit back up.. if you leak again then its probably your waters.. maybe try that out but definatley demand a check from your dr. i had a dr that was stubborn and thought he was always right, i was in labor and he told me to take a tylenol pm and drink a glass of wine and go to bed. WTF??? needless to say he worked in a group of dr's and saw all of them while i was pregnant.. i called a different dr and she had me come in just to be safe.. i delivered 6 hours later.

Ya, your doc really should educate him/herself. My water broke with little leaks, You need to go to the hospital and get checked becuz if it is your water, then you shouldn't go more the 24hrs after. My water "broke" with leaks and I tried an induction, so you don't need to have the storybook contractions. My sister's water broke and she had to be inducted cuz she didnt' get any contractions. Another friend of mine water was leaking here and there, didn't think much of it and called the hospital and was told too come in. If you can let us all know what happened when you went.

your dr was wrong it isnt always just a pop and a gush and then its done it sounds like it is your sack but go to the hospital/dr to get it checked esp when your having other beginning signs of labor your contractions will more than likely become more regular as you continue to loose fluid if it is your sack but i cant honestly tell you that since with my first child i didnt have a single contraction with labor with her but go and get it checked out whne are you due btw...good luck and congrats hon

I second that! Your doctor is an idiot and watches too much TV. It CAN happen as a gush, but often does not. It's usually a trickle that does not stop. When your water breaks you will start having contractions within 24 hours - but that does not mean they will start right away. Mine didn't start for 3 hours after (and even then I didn't feel them, I was just hooked up to the monitor and they told me I was having them) - and a friend of mine, hers didn't start for 9 hours after. Get to the hospital JUST IN CASE, because when the water breaks, there is higher risk of infection. If they send you home, then they send you home - but it's not normal regardless of what it is :) Hope you have a baby soon! Good luck!

Either the baby is sitting on your bladder or you are leaking amniotic fluid...I had my son sitting on my bladder, but it only lasted a few hours and he moved. I'd have the doctor check the ph of what's leaking, that's how they determine if it's urine or fluid. Does it have any smell or color to it?

You still might need to get checked because your water could be trying to break and you might need help with it.... You don't want to leak and leak all the amniotic fluid out because you can have a dry birth and then the baby can get an infection please go tot he doctor.

Your doctor is an idiot. When my water broke it was not, I repeat was NOT, a gush. It was pretty much like I peed myself. A friend of mine has similar occurances to what you are having and she was in labor. Have you just called your doctor or have you actually gone in to see him/her? After my water broke I didnt have "regular" contractions for another hour or so. I would suggest going in to see your doctor immediately or going to the hospital.
