I have a 8 year old son who I love with my whole being but I also have bills :/ I've been trying to get assistance with after school childcare but they have not helped. I don't want to leave him home for 2 hrs anymore b/c anything could happen. I'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place because I love him more than risking his life for money. I guess I've just sorda resolved my own sitcho... Life is so hard...

No Jodi I don't know of any friends that live here in our area. I've thought about that but unfortunately it's not an option. He goes to school with kids that live here but I don't know them or their parents to even suggest something like that. Thank u for the suggestion

I know that in some places it is illegal to leave a child this age alone, so you should check on that where you live. Personally, I wouldn't leave an 8 year old at home. Does he have a friend from school who goes home each afternoon that he could be with? Maybe a friend's mum would be happy to help out for a few return favours (such as babysitting at night)?

Thank you! I think it's a guilt thing that I feel now like what if someone was inside or broke in while I wasnt there I would probably never forgive myself ya know.

We've left our oldest alone when she was 8, but she was okay with it, it wasn't a regular thing, and it wasn't for two hours. We were comfortable with it.
I knew a family with two kids who were 8 and 10 that were alone for a couple hours after school every day. The dad set up a webcam and the deal was that the kids had to stay in the room where the webcam was.
I don't think it's the end of the world for some 8 years old to be home alone for a an hour or two after school. It depends on the situation and the particular child.
