I have an 8 year old daughter entering the third grade in the fall. I have tried so many different styles for her. I also used a texturizer, which I found out later was the same as a perm. All of her edges came out and it was a mess. Tried African hair braiding for her but could not get used to extensions at her age. I am natural from a big chop and tried locs myself but they would not cooperate with my hair texture. Nias hair is great for it, she just had them done today for the first time. She is unsure of she likes them and says the kids at school will tease her. I think the starter locs are never perfect, it takes time. So her hair is short and she is concerned that she looks like a boy. I don't know how to encourage her because I think she looks beautiful.
