I live with a chronic illness and am a single mom in my 40's. My youngest child - a 5yr old girl - is being raiserd by myself and I don't have any help. I have 1 or 2 people in my city who I trust and most of my other trusting friendships are with people far far away...I want my daughter to grow up with the same friends and have lots of love in her life - not just from me - but a family of good people...there must be other calm, gentle, and trustworthy single parents without extended family around that want the same things

I am SO sorry to hear about your illness and raising your daughter alone. Parenting is tough enough with good health and with two parents. You definitely need help and support from others. Not knowing your illness I'm wondering if you are able to get out of the house for a time? Is your youngest in kindergarten? Do you have older children?

There are many mom groups that meet where you can find other women to associate with. Many of these are through churches. These are very safe environments and a safe place to go. There are also programs for your daughter as well. For moms there is a program such as MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) which is for moms with kids through 5. I attended MOPS when they were pre-school age and I would come home each time encouraged and motivated to be the best mom I could be. I also made many friends and had incredible help and support over the years. As other women shared their struggles and/or victories it helped me in so many ways. The program is constructed to encourage moms and is run by pre-school moms so they are fully involved in raising children as well. You could look them up at MOPS,org.

For the kids there is a group called Awana. The kids play games, do crafts and have Bible stories. As you and your daughter begin to meet people and make friends you will begin to build the extended family you are looking for. This program is usually run by parents who love kids. You do not have to belong to the church and many families from the area attend these programs.

You could also google for support groups in your area and see if there are any that might meet your needs as well.

I think you are a GREAT mom and am praying you will find the support and friendships you are looking for.
