My new years resolution has been to find a babysitter so hubby and myself can get a night out without the kids once in a while.

I have found one that has been recommended and will be setting up a meeting between myself, my kids and the prospective sitter in the next few days.

We have never used one before and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to questions that should be asked to determine if this is the right person to look after my children.

Thanks Nikki, you've definately given me something to think about, I'm pretty clueless to the whole thing.
I do know that she has been babysitting since she was about 14 and she is now early 20's. She babysits for a few people I know regulary and I also know her mother (who looks after my kids in the creche at the gym)
I've got her coming round so we can meet her and she can have a play with the kids.
We would only leave the kids with her for a few hours and most likely after the kids are in bed for us to go out for dinner or a movie.

I would make sure they have first aid, suitable experience, references. I would ask about their experiences with baby sitting jobs in the past. Ask what was the most difficult situation they have had to deal with while baby sitting. This will give you an idea of their experience and problem solving skills. Ask how they would deal with an emergency, you could give them a specific scenario and get them to tell you how they would respond.
