I have been to 2 nanny agencies, both have failed me in their attempts to find me a nanny and the candidates they find me are not nanny's at all - they are people whom have cleaned a home with a child in it. I require a proper nanny and everyone said the best way was word of mouth and referals. Hence my email request.
I have cameras in my home already, all set up - unknown to staff which I can access via mobile and lap top for security and for home monitoring. But I still been a proper nanny to trust with my child. Camera or no camera, there has to be a trust.

I agree it is really hard. We had two very good nannies via an agency (that only did nannies not various household staff) and one that I I got through the local college who was a student there going to school to be a teacher. You might try that. One of my nannies told me the nanny down the street did all types of things I would never stand for. I think there we're a few key differences in why we got different care. First I conducted vigorous behavioral interviews of many candidates. You want to be sure to interview many people to get the best and grill them with questions like what would you do in this situation. I had several nannies tell me they didn't want to work for me after the interview because I sounded to tough, that was what I was going for. I also made the rules very very clear from early on and told them they should realize they were being watched (then I had grandma, who makes me look like a pussy cat, drop in unexpectedly on multiple occasions in the first month). I think word of mouth is best (my college girl came that way). But in my case when I looked for the next person I couldn't find someone by word if mouth because no one I knew knew someone. I think this way is hard. For example I'm in the states and my last nanny was great (my son is just older now) but she wanted to stay in the US. I would try the colleges and universities in your area and ask friends, families and people at work.
