My wife and I started our family much later in life, we are more than 10 years behind pretty much all of our friends in family stage, our closest friends have teenagers while our child just completed his second week of kindergarten.
We find it fairly hard to relate to parents of children similar in age to ours as we are at very different stages in career and don't have a lot of the economic pressures that face younger parents. At the same time hanging out with our friends that are focused on discussions about dating, teen drinking, sex & drivers licenses, and their kids generally have better things to do than hang out with a 5 year old.
We are looking for some socialization for both ourselves and our son as we have no close family in the Red Deer Area, my wife's parents are on the East Coast and mine are a 10 hour drive away in east Saskatchewan.
Again the street we live on is a bit more mature, families with older kids so there are limited natural and spontaneous socialization activities for our son.
We utilize lots of the facilities and social activities such as Church and Day Camps and activities that Red Deer has to offer but are looking for something a bit deeper, a chance to talk and socialized with parents in s similar circumstance. My wife is mid-40's and myself late 40's. Our son, a very social 5 year old.
