ADD and ADHD are conditions that a child may have that cause them to not to be able to have normal spans of attention at any given time on any given area. They ADHD also has hyperactivity. I am not an expert on this area but do know of some friends that have children with this. A doctor is the only one who can help you get the child examined and tested for these issues. So as I said if the spending time with him while he does his homework or other activity such as coloring in a coloring book while you read the paper is something the child cannot sit and do for 15 mins due to loss off focus and attention to it with practice for a month and no improvement I suggest you take the child to the doctor and ask about having the child examined for ADD and ADHD.

Take the time with him once he is home to review what he did in school each day and praise him for the things he has done well. Explain to him that his education is his job and it is very important for him to get the best education he can so he can become what he wants to be when he grows up. That if he does all he can to do the activity that is set by the teacher at that time and do his homework if he has any and do his best that he will gain everything he needs during his time of Education to become what he wants to be. IF he has homework sit at the table with him while he does that to do any budgeting, bill paying, newspaper reading etc that will show him that you are also busy with gaining knowledge or applying it. You will also be there should he have a question about a problem he does not understand. Also if it continues you might want to have him tested for ADD/ADHD.
