Loss of child support? Drug abusing ex lost his nursing license.

My ex hasn't lost his license permanently, but it is suspended for three months. If he follows their program and stays sober, he will regain his license and his job. But what about now? Child support was already being deducted from his paycheck by child support enforcement. Instead of making $20 an hour, he thinks maybe he can get a job for $10 an hour. I know child support enforcement considers job loss and amount of income in making their calculations, but what about job loss due to drug abuse? What if he fails their program and loses his license permanently? Anyone have any knowledge/experience with this? I'm in New Hanover County, NC.

One thing I have learned in the last 13 years is never to rely on child support in my budget......If I get it, great, it is a bonus. If I don't well, at least I wasn't relying on it.

I don't know how it works where you are, but here, yep, they would still adjust child support for job loss as a result of drug abuse. My ex QUIT a job last year and has never regained full employment, and they reduced the child support to a whopping $30 a month. As I said, never put reliance on it as part of your income, and then it will never be a problem to you.
