I'm 14 weeks pregnant with my second child and I've ALWAYS had problems with my weight. I was almost 200 lbs after my daughter was born and It took me 18 months to get down to around 180 lbs. I'm eating alot less and alot healthier during this pregnancy and now I'm down to 160 lbs. I'm just wondering how much is actually safe to lose?

You should speak with your doc. Everyone is different and it depends on how the baby and you are doing. I would speak with him, he's a professional.

I'm no sure about pounds, but I was 91kg when I fell pregnant, I am now 38 weeks and 91kg. I was incredibly sick this pregnancy, and lost 12kg, which I have since put back on. I have not gained any weight in the last month. I think your body does naturally what it needs to do to make you the healthiest for your baby. As long as the baby is growing, you should be fine :-) best of luck!

I dont think you should be losing any weight while pregnant, just keep a healthy balanced diet. that said I gained 3 kg while pregnant with my first and even then I put on a kilo next apointment id lost it again. They kept asking me if I was eating enough. Check with your doctor

This is a very tricky project. They won't even let you go to Weight Watchers while you're pregnant. But I understand your point. I was very concerned when I got pregnant for my daughter. I had only gained 20# with each of the boys, but hadn't lost back to where I wanted to be when we discovered it was round 3. I didn't gain anything with Rene`, The only changes I made were to not eat bread, soda pop, and no desert or seconds. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be and voila ! the day she was born I lost 20# !!! Good luck. But don't over do it, remember to eat healthy for both of you.

Amanda, I am 30 weeks pregnant, and have lost arund 30lbs through the entire pregnancy. I have talked with my doctor about it at every single appointment, and he is not concerned about it. I am still overweight, and the weight loss was not intentional. I was very sick and lost over 20 lbs in a week (the week I found out I was pregnant) and even that did not worry the doctor. I would not advocate active weight loss, but if it happens naturally, due to positive changes in diet, or your body converting your stored fat into baby food, then I don't think you should have anything to worry about. Do talk to your doctor, mine has said that since I am now in my last 10 weeks there should be some weight gain, but he doubts that it will be much more than 10 lbs total.

Oh, I was not sick during my pregnancy either... well, I didn't throw up. I was a bit nauseous at times but no vomiting.

I think that as long as you're not trying to lose weight by restricting calories then you should be fine. I would still talk to you doctor about it, though. But some women, especially women who are overweight or obese when they become pregnant, do lose weight when pregnant.

I only gained 2lbs durring my pregnancy. I was always concerned with my lack of weight gain and always talked to my doctor about it. she said that she once had a patient who lost twenty five pounds and ended up having a perfectly healthy baby.

You should just eat healthy, look up how many kilojoules you should be eating a day as per your weight and stick to it, increasing by 1000 in the third trimester. Dieting like eating reduced calories is not good enough to support your pregnant body.

I wasn't overweight at all when I got pregnant and I still lost some weight in my first trimester and part of my second. I lost about 10pounds total. I was just miserably sick.
My OB said that the baby was growing and healthy. So, it was not an issue. But it's a good thing that you have an appointment. They will be able to tell you if what you are doing is ok for your child.

Amanda,
With my first child, I maintained within 10 pounds of my weight the ENTIRE pregnancy! I am overweight and had been trying to lose prior to my pregnancy. This time, my doc told me to use the 2000 calorie diabetics diet to assist with my weight and my baby. (Unfortunately, I lost that baby-had nothing to do with the diet though!) I would love to hear what your doc is recommending!

Thank you all, I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and I'll talk to my doctor then. I haven't been trying to lose the weight it just happened, although, I was trying to lose it before I got pregnant.

It's not a bad thing to lose weight, I lost 12 kg up until 20 weeks. She has not said if she has been attempting to lose it or has been sick or anything. You should not attempt to lose weight while pregnant but it does happen with some women naturally.

That is not true that you should not lose weight while pregnant. It is actually normal to lose weight in the first trimester. Like everyone said you should ask your doctor. I don't see anything wrong with losing weight by eating healthy as long as you are eating when you are hungry. That seems better to me than eating a lot of unhealthy foods.

Ummmm...you should not be loosing weight while pregnant. I would talk to your doctor about this because that's not good in my opinion. You might want to loose weight but now is certainly not the time.

I would suggest definately talking to your doctor. I have heard that there are some that lose weight during their pregnancy though.

if you are eating healthy foods, and you eat slow enough to tell when you nolonger feel hungry. and you eat EVERY time you feel hungry and you check in with your doc for regular prego checkups then your body should take care of the rest.

My sister in law had this happen to her. Find out how many calories you should be eating. As long as the baby is growing and you're eating properly, you should be fine. But talk to your doctor to be sure.
