Around 13 weeks I had an ultrasound and they noted my placenta was a little low. They said they would track it throughout my pregnancy to see if it moves higher. Mine was only "close to covering" my cervix, not actually covering and by the time I was in the middle of my 3rd trimester it had moved high enough so that it wasn't a problem. They said it's pretty common. The trouble with it being low, staying low and actually covering the cervical opening is that when you go into labor the baby will not be able to come out via vaginal birth. If it hasn't moved up I do believe a C-section is mandatory.
