My daughter is expecting her 1st baby in August. She has had IBS for years and because of this she is having a difficult time with tolerating food. No nausea, but stomach cramps. She just recently found out she is loosing weight, high sugar and low iron levels. She is trying to drink Boost, but that along with the iron is making her constipated. Any suggestions on what she can do to put on weight and lower sugar?

It is hard to watch your kids hurt. I was just there with the sugars and iron. I was amazed at how many people end up with the gestational diabetes. I learned lots of tips just talking to others that had gone through it. It is also nice to have someone else know what you are going through. One thing someone told me that was helpful is that one high number or one low number is not going to make or break it. You want to try your best to keep them where they should be, but they will jump around.

Thank you for giving me some suggestions. I know I'm the mom, but its very hard to see your child hurt. I want what is best for her and the baby. He's very active, but with all these problems that are occurring I just worry.

For sugars keep track of her carbs. Carbs. mixed with high protein works best. For me I had to stay away from high starches ( breads, pasta, potatoes). Make sure she is eating on a consistent schedule......breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. Try to have her activity as consistent as possible. She may need insulin to help....this is normal and will most likely increase as her pregnancy goes along....nothing she is doing wrong just the nature of it. Once baby comes it tends to go back to normal...just right now her and baby are working against each other. For the constipation try to have her eat high fiber foods.....beans. Also have her tall to her doc for suggestions. As she finds what works just stay with those. I had 5 different foods that worked and would just rotate...boring but it works. Flat breads sometimes work......casey's flat bread pizza worked good.
