Yesterday was the worst one Ive ever had, my son a 20 year old Lance Corporal Marine was KIA in Afghanistan dragging a wounded marine to cover, Now I have this folded flag and I do not know how to handle myself. Has anyone here gone through a similar type of grief, or can give me a piece of advice to help me.

Ellie, I am sorry you are going through this. I know nothing I can say can possibly relieve your pain. However, I would encourage you to seek some grief counselling, even if it is just someone to talk to. I am sure there will be supports for you from the marines somehow, and it will be free, please take up the support they offer. A counsellor may be able to put you in touch with support groups and help you with strategies to help you move forward in time.

My condolences, and thanks to you for your sacrifice.

Please seek out counseling and grief groups. There are several from one on one to group sessions.

The Marine he saved has already contacted me, as have some of the others in his unit. Their words helped, they described him as a fearless leader and a good friend. I'm happy to know my son was thought highly of but it doesn't ease the pain all that much
