measuring big

I had found out I was pregnant via home test and we ended up with family in the hospital so I couldn't make my prenatal appointment until 12 weeks. So, at 12 weeks, I just went in and she measured me and told me I was measuring big - as in 16/17 weeks along. BIG difference in my opinion. Does anyone else have experience with this? I had someone tell me I will just have a huge baby, another say it's twins, and another say I could just be farther along. What are any of your experiences with this?

I measured big throughout my entire pregnancy. I ended up having a big baby (10 lbs, 3 oz.) by induction after my due date. It could mean any of the three things you listed, but my doctor also said that sometimes it just has to do with how the baby is positioned. They'll be able to predict your due date better via ultrasound, but it's probably not anything that you need to worry about.

Doesn't really matter if twins run on HIS side of the family, it really only matters if it's your side. I would guess that your dates are just off is all.

It could be you were mistaken 10 weeks ago, and you had implantation bleeding or a small bleed (fairly common) at 4 weeks along and not your period. This would throw off dates and is very common, especially with a 4 week discrepancy. Or it could be twins. The fundal height difference at that stage is accurate for either outcome.

I'm not aware of any twins beyond his one uncle [the twin died, I only met his uncle Kenny]. I am going to probably drive myself crazy until Friday afternoon. I know years ago there were no real due dates or all that and you just had the baby when the baby came, but not knowing june or july even....I just can't wait to have an idea of what's going on.
