My twin 13 year old girls have had their periods for a year now. They routinely shove their bloodied underpants in the back of their drawers. They live with dad and stepmom (who is very loving and open with them) how can I lovingly stop this behavior while respecting their temerity about getting their periods?

Talk to them. Be frank with them. Teach them how to take care of themselves. Have the step mom talk with them also. Someone needs to teach them, they don't automatically know how to handle it. Teach them how to count the days from the end of their period to the beginning so they know when to expect it. They should understand all of this but only will understand if an adult speaks with them thoroughly about it.
