My 12 year old daughter has been accused of punching another girl in the face. She promises it is a lie made up to get her in trouble. I told her I believe her. (Only a tiny part of me suspects she may have done it.) I am talking to her about watching her attitude, forgiveness and respect, so something like this never happens again. My daughter must have done something for the other girl to make up a lie.
I have no idea how to talk to the other girl's mother. She believes my daughter did it and is wondering why her daughter did not receive an apology yet.
How do I handle this?

If it was outside of school and there are no credible witnesses... remind your daughter that violence is never the answer and move on. Let the mom of the 'punched daughter' know that you would deal w/ the situation appropriately if you knew what the situation WAS, but since there are no credible witnesses coming forward... you don't know the whole truth and neither does she. Maybe the two of you can sit down together w/ your daughters and talk this out to find out the truth.

This was not at school. It was after school on a walk through town. No adults present. The little girl's mother said that there are witnesses. I called four out of six parents. Two children are saying they did not see anything happen. Two children who said they saw it happen have admitted they lied and apologized. I don't know the parents of the last two children and have no idea how to reach them.

Was this at the school? If so, request a sit down with the parents and the children and get to the bottom of it. Whoever is lying will probably be outed. Also, are there any witnesses?
