Hi everyone! I need some advice or really just to vent. My MIL has, on multiple occasions, called herself "mommy" when speaking to my LO. The other day she said it 4 different times and after the 4th time I finally spoke up and said something. I politely explained to her that I am his mother and I did not want anyone else calling themselves "mommy" to my child because I don't want to confuse him. I asked that she call herself nana or whatever it is she chooses other than mommy because that is taken. She apologized and that was it. He is only 6 wks old so I know he doesn't know what she is saying however, I feel like if she makes a habit of calling herself that now then it will be hard to break when he is older and knows what she is saying. This is her 1st grandchild so I can see how it could have been an accident because she is not used to calling herself "grandma" or "nana" but it still bothers me. We have had issues in the past so I'm not sure if that's why it bothers me more or what but I just can't get it off my mind. I keep thinking, "what if she did it on purpose?" or "what if she continues to do it even after I repeatedly correct her and my LO starts calling her that?" She is kind of ditsy so I can see her making a mistake and accidentally calling herself "mommy" but is it really an accident when you've done it multiple times?! And I mean multiple! That day it was 4 times and she has done it on at least 3 other occasions. Am I overreacting? Please be honest because it has been on my mind ever since it happened and really bugs me! She works 2nd shift and we were considering asking her to babysit our LO before she goes into work and now I'm considering not even having her babysit any more. I just worry that she will not be able to break this habit or continue to make the mistake of calling herself "mommy" and my LO will pick it up. Did I handle the situation well? Should I say anything else or let it go and see if she does it again then correct her again? What do you guys think?
I talked with my husband and he agrees with me and said that if he hears her he will correct her too.

I would wait until next time she visits and see if she does it again, if she does I would have your husband deal with it this time. Maybe have him ask her what she wants to be called, grammy, nana, mamie....Or when she walks in next time hold your LO and say "Look; grammy is here!" maybe she will get the hint!
