I was wondering if there are any moms out there that can recommend milk substitutes. My six year old has recently had milk protien confirmed as an allergy. This means he can not have cow's milk, goat's milk, or any other milk from an animal in his diet. Advice on milk-like substitutes from other ladies that are either vegan or have milk protien allergies in the family would greatly be appreciated!

We have tried almond milk and flax milk but he doesn't care for the taste because he has spent the last six years drinking cow's milk and eating milk based products.

Thanks Linda. We've also tried rice milk (too sweet) and soy milk (too thick). I've been resorting to calcium fortified orange juice, and we just tried hemp milk today (even I can't choke that down easily). Ovaltine has milk in it so that isn't an option. Nesquick doesn't, but all those milk products have a funky after-taste when you add chocolate mix. I think that is the hardest part for him is the plant product after-taste that everything has. Just something to get used to I suppose. I have found a vegan margerine that is good though.

You can buy soy milk and rice milk now in a lot of stores. It probably won't taste like cow's milk...but maybe you could add ovaltine to it or something else so he would drink it.
