Does anyone know if the Mirena can give false negative results on an at home pregnancy test? I am just really scared that something is going to happen and my daughter is just 4 months old.... :/

I got the Mirena in April of 2010 after the birth of my daughter. Everything seemed to be going fine. I obviously had the normal cramping symptoms after it was put in. My periods are not normal at all. I never know when they will come until OOPS they arrive. I've checked for the strings but never feel anything. I'm not sure if the doctor cut them too short or it fell out without me knowing. Now I'm having what I think are pregnancy symptoms. By breasts hurt especially around the nipple and I'm feeling bloated. I just had a short period about a 2 weeks ago. What do you think it is? I really dont want to look stupid in front of a doctor. Help please.

Kayla, you are probably fine. However, as well as the Mirena is effective, the Mirena has been known to come out within the first year (it happen to me after one year and a day). If you are not known to have heavy periods or fibroids, this is the method for you. Risk of pregnancy is very low because it has hormones in it as well as being a barrier method. Be careful and healthy.

if your baby is just 4m old im guessing the results (if you took the test) are probably a mixture of hormones left from being pregnant. I've had Mirena for over a year and haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. My doc told me basically the chance to get preg is so slim she would say the only chance ud have is if it came out... the only thing would be if you had unprotected sex between the time you had your baby and when you had it put in...

i got the mirena in april of 2008 after having my son for the first 8-10 months i didnt have a period at all the dr said it was normall when i did start to have a period things were ok for the first few months i then started having big blood clots after about two months i went to the dr because my period had stopped again not thinking i was pregnant because i check my strings after every period the dr discovered that she could not find my strings and sent me for an internal sonogram where there discovered that i was pregnant the chances of it falling out without me knowing are very slim according to the dr but they have no idea where it is but it is very clear that it is doing no harm to the baby but once i have this baby(not due till May) they have to search the placenta and if not there do a cavity search. So needless to say I am not to proud with the results i received from the Mirena. My advice to you would be to RUN TO THE DR ASAP!!!

Ok so it is possible to become prego with mirena I had mine for 3 years and then I was blessed with my little girl. I didn't know I was due to the fact that I had stopped having my periods, my indicator was sore breast. As far as false negative test it is possible the best way to tell would be to visit your doctor and have them run a blood test and/or do ultrasound if not only to check things out but to also ensure your IUD is still in proper location.

I have had my Mirena in for almost 7 months now. i admit i bleed for the first two months after it was put in but havent have a period since. i think your safe

No it doesn't go get that checked out ASAP! your mirena could have moved and not be in the right place, and could also need to be removed surgically. I am one of the unlucky ones, I now have to go in for ultrasound and have it removed. Don't mess with this get it checked out!

The Mirena IUD Messed me up for like 4-5 months.. I got on it a month after having my son and it made me bleed (NOT SPOTTING EITHER) for 2 months straight while having it in my system the Dr said to give it time.. When He removed it the String (that has the medicine on it that makes it do what it does) was still in my I bled 2 more months until the sting came out... it messed me up BIG time youre probably not pregnant it's not for Everyone....

I have Mirena and I think i'm going to get it taken out, I have had it for 6 months and get my period every 10 days. The docs put me on some pills to regulate it but it's not working I get horrible cramps and often feel pregnant I'm not sure what the chances of becoming pregnant with it is but I know with some women it's normal to feel pregnant because the body thinks the IUD is a baby. I've also gotten some severe migraines from it it's horrible.

It's unlikely that you're pregnant, but not impossible. You shouldn't have any higher chances of reading a false negative with a mirena than without. I had a mirena for about 9 months, and never had a period. It was wonderful, because I've always had really heavy periods, and the freedom to not worry about pregnancy was great. The mirena hormones cause you to produce less lining, which is why some of us stop having a period all together. I had mine out because of some abdominal pain, and it hurt me to have sex with my husband. If at any point while you have a mirena you're truly worried that you're pregnant, see your doctor, if only for your peace of mind.

I use mirena and i love it, I love the freedom that it gives me. Coming from a mom that got prego after bn on the pill for years i deffinatly completely trust the mirena. You have nothing 2 worry about.

Hi Kayla I have had the Mirena for nearly 3 yrs now and i can honestly say it is the best thing i have ever done..no room for human error. My periods are very light and some times non existant. I have several friends with it too and i have not heard of anyone having problems. If you are worried in any way i would advise that you speak with your health visitor. I hope this helps x

Can I ask why you think you are pegnant? Is it b/c you don't have a period? then that would be the Mirena. I have had mine for almost 5 yrs and it is the longest time I havent been pregnant. Mirena works an absolute treat for me!!!!!

Mirena is the closest thing to effective sterilization, and the next best choice to abstinence. It is almost impossible to become pregnant on it (and the rate is lower than 1/100, it's actually closer to 1 in every 2000) . . . because there's no room for human error, like not taking a pill on time (the usual cause of ineffective birth control). It's highly doubtful you're pregnant on it if you had it inserted right. You would have to ask your doctor to do a blood test.

all i know is 1 out of 100 moms become preggo on it. i would doubt you are that one. how long have u had it tho cuz it takes about 5 months for everything to be regulated
