I got it put in and two weeks later, learned it perforatedmy uterus and I had to have it surgically removed. My baby was two months old. I don't know if it's because I'm a nursing mom or not. I just found out that if you are nursing there is an increased chance of it perforating your uterus.

2.5 years and going well. No acne, no pain except MINOR cramps right at the beginning. One thing a friend told me that I sincerely appreciated -- When you get it done, wear black underwear because they use betadine to "prep" and it stains!!!

I love my IUD, and yes, I have the Mirena! In fact, five years came and went and I had it replaced last fall. I did meet a lady that had horrible side effects, so she went in and the doctor gave her the other one (I'm sorry I don't remember what it's called, but it's also an IUD) and she did just fine with that one. For some people it's just a hormone clash.

I spotted for a couple months and haven't had a period in 7 years!!!! It's the best birth control around. I have heard the opposite of one of the ladies, that when you get it out you can get pregnant right away. I think it's just a matter of everybody is different. No acne!

The one thing to be aware of is that your partner may be able to feel the ends, which is pokey. You can go back to the doctor and have the ends tucked to the sides, or just have your partner reach in and do it. That was the only annoying thing I experienced and well worth it in my opinion. I wish I would have known about the Mirena sooner. It's so nice not to have to worry about what preventative we're going to use in the heat of the moment!

Seriously, try it. If you don't like it, switch to the other one. It's that good!

I got it put in and love it. when it was put in it was just slightly more uncomfortable than regular pap smear but apparently I took it really well so its not uncommon for it to be a little bit painful apparently. I haven't experienced any side effects except for the wonderful not getting your period ( i still get it about ever 4-6 months but it's very short and light) Before you get it ask your doctor about the possible side effects and if he has had any patients complain about any of them. The one side effect that I learned about that my doctor didn't teach me was that once it is removed it could be much more difficult to get pregnant for the first year so if you plan to have another baby keep that in mind. So far I have heard mostly good reviews on it from other moms.

Google side affects of the Marina. it can have some pretty terrible side affects, of course not for all women though. I have heard of many women getting it then getting it removed.

i got mirena put in when my little one was 2 mo old and it is awsome. It did not hurt at all but i had a little bit of cramping for the rest of the day but nothing worse then period cramps. I did bleed then spot for a long time almost 5 mos but not every day and not alot just kinda annoying and i do not know anyone else who bled for that long and i know quite a few people who have them. I have now had it in for almost 4 years and have had no problems at all and i do not get any period at all any more, no mood swings, no cramping, no acne, nothing at all. I know every person is different but it was a wonderful choice for me. I also continued to nurse my little guy till 2 wks b4 his 4th bday when he self weened and it never effected my milk supply or anything else. I hope that helps :o) Good luck
