I have had the Mirena IUD since my son, now 3, was 6-7 weeks old. I loved the idea of not having to remember to take a pill everyday or pay for them every 3 months. All I had to pay was my office visit copay to have it inserted!!! I knew that I would want another child in the future, but this would give us time and peace of mind until then.

I was one who's period stopped completely after a few months of having the IUD. I was a happy camper! But what I have noticed recently is that I have been experiencing MAJOR pregnancy symptoms for about 2 months straight. I experienced this before for a shorter period of time, was checked by my Dr. by US. I wasn't prego. But the IUD strings were cut so short that when the IUD moved to the top of my cervix the strings no longer hang out to feel. Checking for it now requires an ultrasound!

It also occurred to me that I experience lots of headaches as well. I'm beginning to wonder if the IUD plays a part in that. So, with all that said, along with the fact that we're getting closer to being ready to start trying for our 3rd baby, I'm having my IUD out next week.

I've been taking some form of BC since I was 16. I'd like to give my body a rest from the addition of hormones. I'm thinking of being fitted for a diaphragm. So old school, I know.

Does any of this sound familiar to you? What is/was your experience? If you use or have used a diaphragm, I'd love to hear from you too!

I refused hormones after several bad experiences, and used a diaphragm. It sucks, sorry. It blocks all the lubrication your body makes when "excited" and you have to use lube. I dunno. It's a PIA to insert, too.

Maybe condoms and spermicide? That's what we have done for the last 16 years, and have had 2 planned children in the process.

Christy- I have an appt with my OBGYN this week. I'm hoping to ask a million questions to really explore our options. Condoms are a non-opt for us. We both dislike them. :-( I'm really hoping to find a good solution. Maybe even the... ***gasp*** Rhythm Method. Really, I don't know. I'm kinda grasping at straws at the moment. I know there has to be a way. Thanks for the insight!
