Hi everyone!
I wasn't vaccinated as a baby/child because my mother thought they were unsafe. The thing is I would like to be vaccinated against rubella. I live in the city now and I hear the horror stories of the effect it has on babies in the womb. Also my cousins baby just got rubella at 12 months ( a month before he was due the vaccine), So it worries me that the disease is still out there, and in the next town!
I have been told that I have to get the MMR and I cant get Rubella on its own. I am breastfeeding my 6 month old and we have decided that we want to start trying for baby number two as soon as possible.
I want to know if anybody knows if this vaccine is safe/unsafe while breastfeeding?
Also, is there any waiting period before you can start to try?

Please help... not looking to be scared loads, just some good advice from people who know a bit about this! Thanx in advance! x

We often give the MMR vaccine to mothers before they leave the hospital. All reasearch so far says it is safe & you may pass on a passive immunity to your child thru your breast milk which is a good thing. Last year I had to get shots for the flu & whooping cough before I left the hospital, a little ouchie but much better than me giving my children whooping cough.

Perfectly safe. I had my MMR shot, while in the hospital due to finding my blood work said I had no immunitys to it. There should be zero waiting period for getting pregnant as a vaccine is not the same as actually having the virus.

talk to your local health professiona.l. Ask your doctor, or a nurse in your area. Tehy will be able to give you a straight answer without all the uncertainty.

As far as I know it is safe while nursing - I had to get a booster right after I had my oldest daughter (you can't get it while pregnant) and I was nursing her at the time. I never had any side effects and it didn't affect my daughter at all.

As far as I know it's safe while nursing. You can't get it while pregnant, but while nursing should be okay. Good on you for getting your boosters! Have you gotten your TDaP yet?
