My 13 year old son was just diagnosed with Epilepsy last week after having 2 seizures in the past month. Any tips on how not to live every second, minute and day in fear of the next seizure? He started Keppra last Wednesday. (Please no negative comments about the medication)

Any time a parent gets a diagnosis, there is a period of adjustment and accepting the information. While epilepsy can be very scary, it is usually well managed on medication and many, many kids outgrow it by adulthood. I do think some time will help, and you will learn that you can handle his seizure activity. What type of seizures does he exhibit and when does he have them? There are epilepsy support groups where you can talk to other moms with the same fears as you. The more you understand the disorder and your son learns to identify triggers and auras the easier this will become. Hang in there!

Edith a swollen hand with a wound that has a white discharge sounds like an infection and need to be evaluated by a health care provider. Immunizations are not given without parental consent and depending on the age are either given in the leg, upper arm or buttock; not in the hand.
