My son was diagnosed with Hydronephrosis when I was 32 weeks pregnant. He is now 18 months and after multiple ultrasounds that kept saying he still had it, we were referred to a pediatric urologist. My son's kidneys are growing like they're supposed to, but the right kidney is dilated. The pediatric urologist ordered a VCUG test (a catheter to inject dye into the bladder, then an x-ray to see if the dye goes up into his kidneys.) We have attempted the test twice without anesthesia (because I don't handle it well, and I'm afraid he won't either) and both times they were unsuccessful with the catheter. The urologist wants us to try the test a 3rd time with anesthesia. I am just getting to the point where I feel like I am torturing my 18 month old and not helping him...I'm so lost!!!
