thanks sarah yeah i totally argee i dont think its right either we got another brand from them that ended up working with his stomach and he didnt get constapated from it he is now 8 months old and his next wic app we have to get another doc note to stay on the formula he has so now i have to persade my husband to allow me to get that and not "try" gentlease again i just really dont want to go threw that crap again and i think as a mother i dont think im asking to much to care for my child but wic thinks it is to give my son the best for him but oh well i have lately been thinking of taken my son off of wic now that we are more settled in and could probably afford simulac better now i wish formulas just werent so expencive wic is a bitch to deal with lol

I honestly think it's too bad that WIC doesn't allow using another brand even if it's medically necessary. My son could never use Gentlease, so I understand. I wish I had some suggestions for you, but I don't. You could try running it through insurance. Some companies will pay for special formulas. Best of luck!

sarah we had tried the gentlease i just thought it honestly bull shit that nebraska would not work with us for the health of my son and even with a doctors note would not for the life of me give us similac

NEBRASKA I had a foster baby on Gentlease which is Enfamil I think. In order to get the Gentlease, think you need a doctor's note or a nutritionist on-staff can change it for you. Hope that helps.

In Indiana, I think they let you choose. My son started out on Similac and he just threw it up so they gave me emfamil. I cant remember exactly but it was some special formula. Been a little while.

When I lived in the Carrollton are in Texas it gave Enfamil with lipil but my daughter got a prescription for the A.R. but I live in Fort Hood, Texas and my neighbor gets it and it is similac now, so I'm not for sure how the state of Texas does it. But I do know that Carrollton/Dallas area only does enfamily with lipil unless you have a prescription for anything else...

I used Similac Advance w/ WIC in PA. If I remember...and it has been a while, it was on my checks just for formula and the sizes and at the grocery store, there were labels under all of the ones that were participating. I used Carnation or nestle Good Start I think first but it didn't work and I switched. This was a few years ago.

Unfortunately, what type of product they will give you is state mandated (and as this thread shows it is widely varied).  It is like their other things you can get.  If it isn't on their approved list, you can't get it.  So while you can usually get different types, the state mandates which brand they use.  I believe they all offer other varieties of their formula, but if the state you live in doesn't use it, it won't matter.  Not on their list, not available.  I wonder if the particular company has some sort of deal worked out with the state or something, but I don't know, just speculation.

Missouri here and 3 years ago I received Enfamil with Lipils.  They would give other types of Enfamil if it was doctor prescribed, but I don't think I ever saw anyone with anything but Enfamil, and by the looks of it this time at the local WIC office, Enfamil is the only formula I've seen this time.

Quoting Abbey:

You can get most any kind. If they are not using the kind you want for your baby you can get a Dr. to perscribe what you think works best with your baby.

abbey that isnt true thats the bigger reason im doing this poll is because my son needs simulac it works the best for him but neb wic will not give it to us even though we have had a dr give us an Rx

Here in New Orleans, LA both my children got WIC. They have received Similac and Enfamil Lipil. I know the Lipil has been discontinued and replaced with another form of the same. I know i've seen two or three different lables thru the system.

Pennsylvania: Good Start

But if your baby needs a special formula the doctor writes up a formula prescription and you can get Special Similacs,Fortifiers, or amino acid based formulas

8 years ago in California they gave Similac, but since it upset my daughters stomach, they were able to give me Emfamil (liquid, not powder) instead

I just moved to Cali from Nevada but I know Nevada give Similac. I have an appointment next week with the Cali WIC so I'll find out which they do but My babies are on Neosure from Similac and I have a RX for it so I know I will be getting that even if Cali gives out Enfamil. I'm pretty sure that it will be Similac because every few years WIC does a bidding thing and who ever gives them a lower price they go with. When my 14 year old was born it was Enfamil.
