We just recently bought a new house 20 min away from our current house. Our current house is 3 min away from my inlaws. We move next week. My I laws decided last week that they are putting their house on the market and are have started looking into houses in our new neighborhood. This drives me crazy! I feel suffocated. Sometimes having her close is handy, but having her follow us so quickly is weird. My parents live fairly close to our current house and have no plans to move.

Lynn, I was terrified of my MIL before we got married, until the first time she visited. We hit it off and are now best friends

I agree with you. I would love if I had a mother in law who wanted to relocate with me! I'm glad i'm not the only one who wants a mil like that. thanks

There are pros and cons to everything. I'm sure your in laws trying to move close to you is a bit much and a bit crazy. And relocating and putting their house on the market just to be close to you guys must be suffocating.

But, appreciate that they want to be that close to you and want to be around you. I have in laws who could care less about even being around us. My sisters complain about in laws who are in like your in laws. N sometimes I wish I had in laws who were like that.

I would rather have in laws who are like yours and my sisters than ones who don't even come around. I wish I had in laws who want to come around or who want to know what i'm doing and what im up to.

There are pros and cons but for the most part I think you are lucky to have in laws whos world revolves around you. I can barely get my in laws to make it for holidays and my kid's birthdays. And they live nothing but 15 min away. Its a blessing in disguise. I would rather have the problem of in laws her are around too much than have ones who are no where to be found.

I hope that this helps.

I think you're reading too much into things. If your in laws want to sell their home and move to a different neighborhood, whether or not it's the same one you are moving to is irrelevant. What they do with their possessions is their business.
If you feel 'suffocated', I would say that you're allowing their actions to dictate your feelings.
TBH, if my MIL wanted to move in next door to me, or down the block...I'd be extremely happy with that!
