Hello! My name is Brittney and I'm a single mother of 3! Ages 7,5, and 3! My 5 year old daughter is either adhd and dislexic or both! Were in the process of figuring all of that out! The first doctor (her primary physician) didnt really ask any questions or do any examination and just wrote her a prescription stimulant to treat adhd. I have not given it to her! I know that medication is sometimes needed in cases like this but I can not help but feel that there is something I could do as her mom other than go straight to the medication. She is only 5 and I love her for everything that she is including her attention span of a fly! I don't want the medication to change her as a person with that being said I do want to do what is best for her! She struggles so bad! She did not go to PreK so I know she was slightly behind as it is but teaching her and doing homework is so hard on the both of us and I also have a son in first grade and a 3 year old daughter to tend to. If anyone could give me some tips/tools that could help getting her homework done and being able to focus and comprehend it would be much appreciated! She is pretty good in Math but struggles tremendously in Reading/sight words and spelling. She knows the letters but can not tell you the sounds the letters make. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You know, I'd almost be tempted to report the other one to the licensing authorities in your area. Prescribing meds without an evaluation can be life threatening...

Good luck!

An actual evaluation should have been done before any medication was prescribed, so I would have not gone with meds yet either. Get her into a physician that will actually do an evaluation.

Dietary changes can help as well, so check into that too.
