Mother needs tips on morning routien.

Hi All,

I am having trouble finding the time for me in morning. I really enjoy my sleep, so I usually get the kids dressed, bags backs, lunches etc. And I find that when I am about walk out the door - I check myself in the mirror - and a totally shock comes over at me. I look horrid! have forgot to get myself ready (although dressed.)

Since having my 2nd child I have noticed that unless I have a pre planned mothers nite out. I really don't groom myself the way I used to, as I seem to not have time or am just tired. It seems like so much more effort these days.

Who has any tips for me - any short cuts to still looking good etc?

I'm like you, I like my sleep and I'm not very "with it" in the morning. I find it easier to get everything possible ready the night before when my brain is still activated. I have a toddler, so it's a bit different, but if I have my clothes, his clothes, the diaper bag, etc ready, it's much faster. Even putting out the hair straightener, deodorant, moisturizer, eyelash curler and mascara out on the washroom counter so I can stumble in and put things away as I use them so that when the counter is clear I know I'm ready is helpful on those really sleepy mornings. Also I either take a shower the night before or make him wait to get up until I'm somewhat ready. I find even waking up 1/2 hour earlier than my son will make the whole day go better. I set the alarm and if he wakes up earlier than that, it's just too bad, he can wait until I'm ready.

I know you have said you like your sleep but I make sure I get up and have my shower before the kids get up for the day. That's my "me" time.

I have 3 children, 2 in school and one 2.5yo. I also work full time so I have to have a very strict routine in the mornings.

I get up about 6:30am for my shower and get ready for work. The kids don't have to be up until 7:15am so it gives me time to get ready. Sometimes the older ones are up before and they get themselves ready for school (dressed and breakfast). I get my 2.5yo up about 7:20 and feed her breakfast and change her. I still manage to have my morning coffee in this time and I also make lunches in the morning. We leave the house at 8am to take the youngest one to daycare and if the weather is nice the older ones walk up to school (only a block away).

I guess I have always been a morning person so I don't find it hard getting organized in the morning.

Well I go to bed early. Around 9-10p. I get up at 5 and have an hour of me time or more. Take a shower and get dressed and put minimal make-up on. If you can't do that, then wash your face, use a toner and put some powder or cover up on with some mascara. The whole process takes 5 minutes. I find the toner helps A LOT!!!!

Thanks all, yeah I have been a bit run down these past few weeks - flu, birthday organizing, then had to move prior to that.

I tried it today - got my son's bag all sorted nite before - laid stuff out on the table. I got up just a bit earlier than the kids and headed for the shower. Followed by a strong coffee.

Did the trick! Hopefully I can keep it up.

Although I didn't have any make up on - I felt fresh. Also I am trying a new skin treatment - a friend of mine has this light thingie (not lazer, but similar) and she gave me a treatment for acne/skin discolor and then one for permanent hair loss.

I find it such a catch 22, being a well groomed female before kids. And then after kids - wow the bags under eyes - the horrid skin on face (pimples and dark spots) and also I have found the hormonal change has made me start getting the odd dark hair start to pop up on my chin. etc. Not to mention the change in wardrobe - grab what ever is clean and put it on in 2 sec flat.

Its hard being a woman - having dark hair and light skin, that shows every blemish etc.. The time to pluck, shave, do hair (brush), make-up (even light powder) etc. Its as though I step in front of the mirror to start - even brush my teeth and then I look at the time and my time is up! Its a never ending battle. Just learning to do things faster - the night before or getting up earlier.

I am glad coffee exists.
