My daughter will be 20 in September...She has high function autism. We have worked with her daily since the time she was diagnosed. The most difficult thing is emotion, personality, etc. She is now dating. The gentleman is a few years older and has the some of the same traits as my daughter. They have both tried to date others that do not have autism etc. and it never works out. They have been dating for about 6 months and she has mentioned that they would like their own place. We have a large 16 room house and the ability to turn the downstairs into an apartment. I feel this is the best outcome for all of us because our family can continue to monitor them and assist in anything they need to continue as an independent couple in society. She also has uncontrolled diabetes that requires constant monitoring because she does not follow diet and medicine requirements. My husband is a devout Catholic and does not completely agree with them "living" together. We have 4 grown boys older than her and 2 of them are in relationships as well but do not live under our roof.
