Music Recommendations

OK, I admit it, I am a music snob. I can't stand the typical children's music out there for babies (Baby Einstein, etc). I was appalled when I heard my favorite classical music reduced to clinky fake-sounding wind chimes! I fortunately found a good lullaby CD that I can tolerate (Lullaby: A Windham Hill Collection), and fortunately my son loves it. Now I really need some fun during-the-day-play music that isn't too annoying. I'm cool with nursery rhymes, but I'm hoping against hope that there is a CD out there that doesn't make me want to jab my ears out. Any help, fellow mommies?

I too am a music snob. I played my music (jazz and classical, mostly). As a result my son (now 15) is open to all kinds of music. As he posted in an online profile, "there is good music in every genre." Just keep in mind that this is a teaching moment too -- you are showing your son what good music sounds like.

A suggestion: Go on i-Tunes and preview They Might Be Giants and Raffi. See if you like them. You can also try all sorts of "Children's Music" in 30 second samples to see if you like the songs. (You don't need an iPod to get iTunes. You can just download it from If you buy anything, though, you will need to set up and "Apple ID.")

Good luck!
