Hi, it is good that you are noticing the "pocketing" of food your little girl is doing. First, call the doctor for professional advice. If you do not get any, try a Speech Therapist. I work with many and they deal with "swallowing problems" It can be do to poor motor control, or cognition with swallowing. They would evaluate and treat her by teaching her how to process the brain, and teach the muscles what to do.
Meanwhile, are you keeping her in a high chair during feeding? Do not let her be distracted with anything else while feeding. Second, give her verbal cues to "chew and swallow" Third, you can give her a drink to help breakdown food for ease of swallowing, and last you can try, running your finger on throat gentle to simulate swallow reflex, also "tucking chin" helps engage swallowing. Last, before you let her out of the chair, do a "finger sweep" to ensure all food is out and avoid choking, as well as track to determine how much she pockets for information to give to doctor and or therapist.
My son "pockets food and drink" sometimes and he is 8! I am very strict on his inability to leave the table, or ly in chair while eating. I remind him to chew and swallow before asking to be excused. I also find he puts fluid in the entire mouth, before swallowing any? Instead of a steady flow. This makes him full to early and gets dehydrated. Even if she is not eating as much as she should, fluids are most important, be sure she is drinking plenty and get to the MD soon. take care

I know my sisters son was like this. He just held food in his mouth for HOURS! Totally gross to us, but for some reason they like it. I know the more she forced him to chew it, or spit it out, the worse it became.

Sorry, don't really have any advice, just wanted to let you know others do this also.
