Hi everyone my son is 11 weeks old was 7lb8 at birth weight
The last 4/5 week has been sleeping through from 8/9 at night so 6/8 in morning
He has 9pz bottles in day every 3 hours sometimes doesn't drink all
But it's always the last bottle before bed he has so much, so I started giving him a little bit of baby rice then bit of cool boiled water to wash it down
Then he would normally have his bath then would have 9pz of milk and will not sleep until he has at least another 2/3oz
I really don't know what to do
Most times I give him water instead of milk n that settles him the same, when he does go to sleep always sleeps through
I just feel like he isn't meant to drink that much surely? But then people say they won't drink it if they didn't want it. He was 17lb when I got him weighed yest at 11 weeks
Anyone have any advice on what I could do?
Sorry it's so long
Kate x

from my understanding it's completely normal for baby's that age too drink a lot of milk. could be growth spurt, or wonder week. or needs the comfort. you're not a bad mom, there is loads of information out there and different opinions it's very hard to know what to do. I believe the youngest recommended age for starting solids is 4 months, so unless a pediatrician has recommended I would hold of. give a extra bottle perhaps bubs needs it? try the pacifiers as well great suggestion. don't stress 11 weeks is still young, sounds very normal to want lot of milk. also generally need for water until 4 to 6 months and then it's just sips. milk is main part of diet until one year! if you're concerned you should definitely see a doctor

You can either mix it or just swap it which ever you find easier stick to the same brand just use the hungry baby milk instead xx hopefully it will help a pacifier is what we call a dummy in the uk or sometimes its know as a soother can help if the baby wants to suck to go to sleep but not all baby's take to them. My daughter used to spit hers out they are worth a try though

Refusing to ask a doctor because they might make you feel bad or inadequate is being irresponsible. I am sorry for saying so, I am not meaning to be rude. You will find as you are a mom longer that you have to just get a thic skin and do what every you must to be assured your child is absolutely being cared for, even if that means pestering your doctor.

I have heard cereal at a young age makes them more prone to wanting fed more, as it stretches their bellies and makes them feel a fullness they don't with milk alone. Too much water can be dangerous, and is never recommended at a young age, I can't believe someone told you to give it to him. Maybe try a pacifier, it could just be the urge to suckle. Does he keep it all down or spit it back up? are the diapers normal, or are they fuller, or do they seem less?

No one's comments are meant to make you feel like a bad mom. Maybe you're being a bit sensitive.

Some doctors will tell you water or cereal. My baby had cereal in her bottle because of acid reflux, she didn't develop tummy troubles. Some breast fed babies are given water while waiting for mommy to come home. With that said the doctor should know that it is going on simply because there might be an underlying problem causing them to eat this much.

Cecilia that is why I don't want go doctors as that comment has made me feel like I'm a bad mum,
When your baby won't sleep because he is still hungry what am I meant to do?
Let him scream for hours on end because he is hungry
Babies are aloud water my health visitor told me
If he doesn't have the water & baby rice he would be having a lot more milk,
My health visitor said if he was still awake & hungry on last feed to give him some water

At 11 wks old he should be only having milk....no water and no cereal. If he is hungry he needs to be drinking milk all the other stuff does not give him the right nutrition for his age. Cereal can also cause tummy troubles at his age.

Well eventually he has to go in for a check up. 3 months appointment is coming up soon right? Just bring it up then. I doubt a doctor will make you feel bad for worrying about his eating. You're a new mom, they are used to new moms always calling them and over worrying sometimes.Plus, it is their job to inform you on eating and nutrition.

I was always one to feed my babies when they were hungry. It does sound like it is a lot of milk. If he isn't throwing up i would say it's okay. I would let the doctor know how much he is eating and ask for advice there.
