I have read that walking backwards usually comes around 16 months? Prior to becoming a sahm recently I was a toddler teacher. I also previously taught pre-k. I'm vague on milestones at this early age so I have googled.

He started walking at just over 10 months. He only says dada but mumbles a lot more. He understands a lot of language as well as sign language but does not use sign. (Just to give references to his abilities)

Is it normal for him to be waking backwards? If anyone had a 12 month old walking backwards dos they also start running and jumping earlier too?

I wish I had time to prepare you know! When he started crawling I thought I had time before walking but I really didn't! He started crawling and surfing furniture all at same time! The school I worked for had me put him in shoes which prevented him from walking at school but we would come home take his shoes and socks off and he would walk.

Now he tries to climb (he was climbing stairs before walking and we moved to a place with no stairs). He knows he can't get in our coffee table so he throws a pillow on floor to stand on. He can't get on couch so he steps on our feet to get up. It's crazy how he thinks.

So I guess I need to start preparing for jumping and running as it seems it is going to happen sooner. The kid has an extremely high tolerance for pain (he doesn't flinch at needles) so I worry when the jumping and running starts all the booboos he will get and probably I won't know until I see a mark since he doesn't cry about it.

Taking a deep breath!

If he can do it... great. There is a fairly wide range of normal in these milestones.
