My 12 month old SCREMS and CRIES when I pick hi up from daycare. I'm Hearbroken :-(

This week my 1 yr old has started not only practically leaping out of my arms into the daycare lady's arms when I drop him off, but throws a HORRIBLE fit when I pick him up :-( I'm honestly heartbroken. I work 3 days a week so he's only there 3 days a week. I am elated to be able to pick him up at the end of the day and he seems devastated to see me. He's my only child so I tell myself the reason is because he's with other littles ones his own age there and enjoys them, but that doesn't make me feel better. From the second we get home until he goes to bed we play, cuddle, read, etc. I don't know why he'd dread coming home with me so much. I am SO THANKFUL that he loves going there, I'd be even more upset if he hated it, but I'd at least like him to be happy to see me at the end of the day.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did it pass? Please help..I'm sick about it. Thank you!!

I'm a stay at home mom but my SIL sends her kids to daycare and let me assure you this too will pass. Her oldest who just started Kindergarten this year loved daycare and for the reasons you said: There were other little ones his age. My SIL now has 3 kids ages almost 6, 3 and 1. now that they have each other to play with (or torment depending on the day). They are happy to see mom. One thing my SIL daycare center was willing to do to make it a little easier was about 30 minutes before she got there they would say "mom will be here soon so let's get ready to go." And then do little picking up "chores" and say goodbye to his friends just to put him in the proper frame of mind.
