What do you think will happen if you refuse to let him use the bottle? He isn't going to die of dehydration. He can act his age or do without. No matter if you have a new baby in the house or not. I am really suspect of this post.

Uh huh... either you are full of crap, your 12 year old has serious mental health issues that you are not mentioning... or he's just doing it to drive you nuts (I wouldn't put that past a 12 year old). No NORMAL 12 year old will do this.... especially outside of the home. He would never live it down.

If you are for real (thinking Sarah is correct)... please don't adopt any more children. It's quite clear you can not handle the two you already have.

At 12 he knows better. What was he drinking out of before the 5 month old came along? Surely he hasn't been drinking from bottles all this time. If he has then why wasn't it addressed earlier. If it's new then YOU put your foot down and tell him no. YOU are the parent so YOU need to stop it.
If he is just taking the baby bottles then lock them up and hide the key! There are plenty of ways to prevent him getting to them.

Cassie, your 12 year old needs to grow the heck up. He shouldn't be taking bottles from the baby, and if he is, then he needs some consequences.

And when I say "he hasn't started school yet" I mean that school this year has not started.

Sarah, no I am dead serious, I have a 12-year-old and I honestly don't know what to do in this situation.

Your posts are really confusing. Either you have lots of typos or you are a kid playing games.

I just started about a week or two ago and he hasn't started school yet, we can't exactly get rid of the bottles because we have a 5 month year old we just adopted and we plan on adopting another soon,

That's what is posted, but I was hoping it was a typo... thinking one thing and typing another (happens to me all the time..lol).

12 YEAR old... or 12 MONTH old? If it's a 12 year old... unless he has developmental delays that make him like an infant... He can suffer the thirst until he gets over himself. If it's a 12 month old... it's not a big deal. Just keep offering a sippy cup regularly. He'll get it in time.

This is absurd, who rules the roost in your home. Drink from a cup or go without. Period. Does he take a bottle to school?
