I am a mother of two boys. My older son is a very happy child with occasional outbursts like most two year olds. My 13 month old son is an entirely different story. He has been cranky and inconsolable since birth. Nothing makes him happy. He screams and thrashes to the point of exhaustion. He was a difficult birth. He suffered from shoulder dystocia at birth and had his cord around his neck. At the age of 12 weeks, he was diagnosed with laryngomalacia which is extra tissue in his larynx. This causes him to have noisy breathing. He sleeps through the night but when he's awake, he's crying or screaming 75% of the time. The pediatrician says he is just a difficult baby but I think something is wrong with him. First they said it was colic but he should have grown out of that by now. Then they said maybe acid reflux but medication doesn't seem to make a difference. They say I'm just an overwhelmed mother. I am overwhelmed but that's because he cries all the time. I look forward to going to work to have a break from the noise. We have lost 3 babysitters because they say he is too difficult and disruptive to the other children. I'm soon going to have to quit a job I love because we won't have daycare yet again. He has an appointment with a GI specialist in a few weeks. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
