Okay, so I'm really starting to get worried.
My lo was born @ 37 weeks,
He was a couple of weeks late at doing almost everything, holding his head up, rolling over, crawling.
Now he's 13.5 months and not walking yet, not is he saying lots of words, he says mama, baba, dada, Yaya, shakes his head for no, and nods his head for yes or "more",
He seems to understand quite a bit, especially when he's trying to go for items in the house that are off limits,
He'll give me this glare like leave me alone....
But should be worried?

Babies typically walk between 9 and 16 months. About half of babies are walking by the time they turn one, but the other half aren't. This isn't anything to be concerned about. Most doctors won't consider it a problem until a child is 18 or 20 months and still not walking - provided there isn't a general pattern of delayed development.

As for language, you son sounds fine. He has a few words, gestures, understands a lot of what you say, and can communicate. At this age, that's all that is expected.

The thing about development is that it tends to come in bursts. The milestone charts look like they have this smooth progression of skills, but that's only because researchers and specialists average together the results from thousands of babies. Real babies and toddlers have plateaus and bursts of development... and with language in particular, kids usually turn a corner suddenly and jump from a handful of words to a vocabulary you can't track because it's advancing so quickly. Sometimes that burst come early and you have super advanced toddlers, and other times it comes later.

At 13 months our second daughter was barely talking - she'd say bap for pumpkin and she might have had a couple other words... but then she was reading before her third birthday. Our forth child hardly spoke at all as a toddler, but he'd advanced for his age now.

No need to worry.

1) Both my kids were the same age as your child when the first steps were taken.
2) Both kids had the same vocab as yours does at the same age though my daughter had more than that because by 2 she was talking as good as any 5 year old child but she is an exception to the rule. My son was over 3 before he got any sort of amount of vocabulary to use on his own but until that point he understood what was wanted of him and used his basic words for things or pointing them out to me.

No kid follows the same exact time frame for meeting milestones like walking or talking. Even being born two weeks early, it does not seem to make a difference for your child. He is talking those basic words all year olds have. No one year old child I know has more that one word for different things. They just do not automatically start up conversations like an older child or adult would as they are still learning to talk and the vocabulary that goes with it. I have known some kids not to walk before even 15 months or a bit later. If he is pulling along things around the house to walk sort of then he is doing fine.

I'm sorry, he's autistic. Put him out of his misery quick and easy with a pillow and some wark milk, it'll be like he was never even there.

I don't think you should be worried, you know my baby is gonna be 12 months he only says mama, my Mom told me i started talking at 12 months but Literaly sépalo y the whole thing, hehehe but, my husband started at the age of two, my son just starts holding up and standing up by himself but he doesn't walk. I just think all of us are different ways of learning, the timing in the development of the babies is just an approximate of what to expect.

I can totally see the weight being an issue with that. My son was 30 pounds by 1. As for kids at 13 months having all sorts of words, my daughter was using a lot of words at 1. By age 2, she was talking so good people thought she was five. Again its dependent on the child and when they are ready. No child follows the average to the T. Some are on target, some are a bit faster and others a bit slow.

Thank you,
I feel like he should be where he is...
He is a chubsters 29 pounds...
So I kinda felt like that could be one of the reasons for the late walking....
But as I'm reading other peoples posts and seeing that 13 month olds say a whole variety of words just kinda trips me out...
But I do have to keep in mind that all toddlers/babies are different.
Thanks again
