My 14 year old daughter hangs out with losers

My daughter has friends but they're all super nerdy. Their parents don't even care that they are on the computer all day! She really likes these friends, but I'm afraid they're a bad influence on her. This causes her to get on the PC she built with her nerd friends and play games from when she leaves school to 3 a.m. All she talks about is Minecraft and world of Warcraft. In my day people like this often got bullied and I don't want that to happen to her.

Good parents don't call their kids friends losers or nerds (in fact they don't tend to use these terms about children at all), and they don't contemplate implants for their 14 year old. I'm calling troll.

And why did I swear in my comments? Because I am constantly frustrated by crappy parents who don't know when to say no to their child and then wonder why their kids end up screwed up.

I'm sorry, why are you insinuating that "nerdy" kids are losers? I'm starting to think you aren't even a parent. You know what? If you kid is on a computer with her friends until 3am, that doesn't mean she is hanging out with nerdy losers, that means she has a crappy parent who ALLOWS her to be on the computer all night. Ultimately, they are her friends, and if she is happy with them, that's not your call, but your daughter awake until 3am? Fuck yes, you have a say in that. Grow up and parent your child.

Yeah, keeping a bunch of fictional stories straight must be exhausting!

The friends in general don't seem like the issue. Buy, only being social through the Web can hinder her social development and people skills. Try to find a group/club that is associated with her interests. That way, she can still be involved with the things she likes as well as engage in face to face interactions.

Oh... and they censor their own music and think drinking, drugs, and teen sex are all totally stupid... and are on their way to a youth group event (100% their choice and desire to attend) as we speak. ;)

My 14 year old daughter just said 'crap' like 10 minutes ago. I said 'hey now' (cuz I prefer them to not talk like that around me and their little brother), but that was it....

According to Lanie:
" "Crap" is a bad word that can lead to cursing, smoking, etc. When my daughter said crap, I threw her phone out of the car window and she didn't talk for a week!"

Excuse me but i was that science, computer and math nerd! i was also on the varsity soccer team 9-12th grade! nerd does not equal loser- i was the only girl on the math team too. today i am married to a AFA grad, i am a successful actuary, i still play soccer, i tutor at the HS, and i love who i am. my parents never one time discouraged me to turn from from my gifts and it is shameful that you would label someone a nerd or a loser becasue they are gifted at computer science. i was skinny, flat-chested and not especially popular-- but that made no difference to me. i was friends with the other mathletes and i was friends with the athletes. it is what is on the inside that matters. your posts make me sad for your child-- just let her be, she is not hurting anyone

Christ on a cracker! One post you want your gorgeous daughter not to hate you for saying no to make-up and big boobs, now you want her to not be a nerd? Let me tell you those nerds are going to be her boss someday. How on earth is a friend who can build a computer, a bad influence? If you want her off the computer turn the wifi off or throw the breaker to the power source. Tah-dah, nothing to do but look in the mirror and put on makeup and stuff your bra and listen to inappropriate tunes.
Your posts are absurd, in one you worry she will be a nerd, the next she will hate you for not getting implants, the next you threw her phone out the car window for saying "crap"
Since when did swearing lead to smoking or worse!
This cannot possibly be a parent!

Don't forget (if you saw it) the post where someone is complaining about the type of music her daughter listens to... not because she objects, but because her husband does... and Lanie asks for tips on how to get her daughter TO listen to that type of music (think it is rap w/ a lot of swearing... yet she objects to a full grown adult using that language too... lol).

I didn't even make the correlation between this and the implant post.
So in 1 post she has friends who are all getting implants and then in another all her friends are "Losers" (YOUR word not mine) who play the computer day and night.
So what is it? Seems you have tripped yourself up with your own lies.

So why aren't you being a parent and turning off technology at a decent time and sending her to bed?
My almost 15yo has a bed time and he knows that all technology goes off. We can also check if he has anything connected to the wifi so it is possible.
I wouldn't go as far as putting her friends down, at least they aren't into drugs and stealing. You just need to be the parent and have time limits for playing games.
