Even with the bi-polar, you still need to make sure that you have consequences for breaking the rules. He needs to know, clearly, what the rules are, and if you can tell him ahead of time what the punishment will be, then do that so he fully understands the situation. Then, when he breaks the rules, enact the consequences... EVERY TIME. Don't back down. You can't let him run wild, and say, "oh well, it's because he's bi-polar, there's nothing I can do". You still need to try to parent him properly. If you're not willing to stand up to him, then you're only hurting his chances at being a responsible adult. Do not let him bully. If he hits you or his brother, then that is a crime, and you can press charges. Do not let him steal. Stealing is a crime, and you can press charges. If he destroys your property, that is a crime, and you can press charges.

Are you in family counseling? I am assuming that he is in counseling w/ the bipolar... What does his therapist suggest?
