Hi, In new to Circle of mums, I found reading through other womens experiences helped me through a miscarraige. Anyway, Ive since had my 4th baby and he's 16 months. Im a bit worried because he doesnt have many words. My other children were very talkative at early age. If anyone is going through this or hes gone through it I would love to hear your story. Thanks Rosie

Oh my! If sis is answering for him with that much age gap, I would start to encourage that sister to not do it anymore for him. That will enable him to let others do things for him not just talking. Have her let him tell you by pointing, using what words he knows or babbles to get what he wants.

You can not compare your newest child to the other older ones. Each child is unique an what he or she does is not going to be at the exact same time as what the others have done. When you say talkative do you mean gibbering mixed with words or totally words. Most kids this age can say quite a lot of words but do not really put them into phrases or even sentences till age 2 or so. So its not uncommon for your child to do this. Also boys can tend to be a bit slower than girls too. I have a daughter who could talk like a 5 year old at 2 years. SHe was also around a lot of adults all the time and picked up on how they talked. My son was around more adults and his sister growing up through toddler years but he did not get to talking very well until he was nearly 3. Its different for all kids. Now if you do notice something that seems off then I would say take him in and get him tested but if he is gibbering a lot and adding some words here and there, I would say he is doing fine.
