Hello,
Please help me with any ideas what to do with my son who keeps waking up every night for a while now beacuse of coughing so bad. I have the humidifier on for him and been giving him tea with honey. Doesn't seem to help. There is no cough medicine at this age the doctor said so I just need to wait and see but it doesn't go away. So neither him nor I get a good sleep at night. Please tell me what to do to help him. Thank you.

vicks... and elevate him so that he is not laying flat ... the nasal drip is what is causing the cough ... no honey... no dairy

night-time cough is usually a sign of childhood asthma.

If he has a pillow, pop it in the freezer for 24hrs, this kills any bugs/dust mites etc.... which can make it worse.
Diet can improve asthma too - often taking dairy out and sometimes wheat can show improvements.
You can also give high dose vit C to improve immune system.
You can keep giving vit c - your body starts to have slightly loose stools when it's absorbed enough (usually so much more than it will say on the side of the tub!)

I also have a 17 mth old who has had coughing and runny nose or what seemed like a cold for a long time. Two months ago he was diagnosed with childhood asthma. Dr. said it would go away by the time he is 5. Because of the crazy weather it has been bad. He was on nebulizer and mix of two meds for two months and saw 100% improvement. His dr. said to continue with one med once a day for another month until he sees him for 18mth checkup....I got kinda lax on giving him his treatments tho9ugh because it has been so cold and that is when I noticed the past couple weeks that he wakes at night coughing. Hope this helps.

i would get a second opinion, i. see another dr or a paeodetition. my friends little boy had a constant cough, at night mainly aswell, and the dr's kept saying same thing, nothing to worry about, it will go and treated her like an over protective parent. anway she did see another dr, who did more checks and now ryan has been diagnosed with asthma. he's too young for an inhaler so at night has a mask over nose and his mum and him are getting much better nights. also his dr said he will probably grow out of it by 6 or 7ys, alot of childhood asthmatics do.x

Thank you for all the replies. His doctors thinks now that he has allergies what is cousing the nasal drip and gave him 2 drugs for allergies. I don't know if that is the cause for sure. He is also teething some days so it could be that too I guess. I can't wait for him to talk...
