My 17 son has 16 yr girlfriend over and always want to shut door. I am enforcing open door rule. Do you agree?

Definitely, I agree, door open. I have a 17 year old son as well. He has had a couple girls over and I know it isn't cool to sit out in the living room with mom and his younger brother, so I let them go into his room, door open and subject to spot checks. I send his brother down just to keep them on their toes and then I leave them alone for about ten minutes. I then crept down the hallway and found them in a very in depth search for each others tonsils. Needless to say, I reprimanded him for knowing better and her for showing such a lack of respect in my home. He hasn't had anyone over since then, but he understands I'm not running an escape for wayward girls that want to trap him into anything. I'm probably over strict with him but I also give him his space and he respects those boundaries. I'm very lucky, he's been a great son all in all.

What's a bit of silent treatment here and there. He won't ignore you forever :)

Thank you for the confirmation. After I set the rule down, I have gotten the silence treatment. I'll prevail, and hopefully without being grandma until a few more years from now!
