My 18month old is not talking anything as yet, although he blabbers but not single spoken word so far. He responds to the instructions most of the time, hears well, is very active. I need tips to get him talking. I'm thinking of putting him in a play school where may be interacting with same age group will help him in his speech delays. Suggestions please. Thanks

Thank you for the sign language website!!! My son is 19 months old and hasn't spoken one word yet. His hearing is good and babbles constantly, but just hasn't grasped words yet. I'm hoping in the meantime using sign language with words will help avoid so much frustration.

My daughter was only saying 3 words at 18 months and we had her assessed by Birth to 3 which is a free program in the US, they come right to your house and do a whole assessment. My daughter didn't qualify for services but they did give suggestions on things we could do at home to build her language. We started teaching her sign language so she could communicate with us. We taught her words like food, cheese, banana, milk, juice, water, swing, slide, sleep, all done. It was so helpful because it made it easier for us to know what she wanted. By the time she went to her two year check up she was only speaking 10 words but could sign 50 plus. She's now 2 1/2 and she doesn't stop talking however she has some pronunciation issues so we are going to have her reassessed to see if she qualifies now before she ages out of the program. Here is the singing sight that we used
