Her name is Akeira. If she don't get her way she hits herself and hits me. She screams and cries for hours on end and idk what to do anymore...

She is expressing frustration about something she is unable to articulate to you. Have you tried evaluating the situations when she gets to this point; "Is she tired?", "Overstimulated", "Is she not feeling well or in pain?".

I'm sure you are doing great. Hang in there. Getting over this hurdle can feel very tough (we've all been through it or have it yet to come).

You just have to find the strength and will to last longer than she does, till she learns that mommy means business and there is no point in acting out.

She will do, but if you cave and give in, you will reinforce her behaviour.

that's exactly right, Chelsea, you just have to be stronger, and to be quite honest, MORE STUBBORN!

Keep using words to explain everything, keep redirecting, keep the calm, patient tone.

You're doing very well, my dear! Keep up the good work!

Akeira just smacked me when I told her no...so I tried a different method. I made her look at me and explained to her why she couldn't play with the remote and why she shouldn't hit people. I think I gave her the wrong idea by spanking her so now I'm using other ways to get through to her. It seems to work so far.

My goodness. She's 18 months old, not 18 years...and you are the parent. You need to step up with consistent discipline to make it clear that this behaviour is unacceptable!

What discipline have you used so far? She's too young for something like the naughty step/chair to really get through to her, but have you tried calmly and repeatedly guiding her hands away from hitting and saying 'NO!' firmly, followed by 'We don't do that'?

What do you/ have you tried when she is screaming and trying to hit?
