My 18month old son is very hyper and does not sit still for more than a min or 2 sometimes not even that long. He also does not sleep well at night waking up at least 4 times a night. I don't let him sleep much during the day. He does not really want to talk. He does have a few words but does not want to use them. He sometimes gets a bit aggressive. I have a hard time discipline him as it does not seem to have an effect. Should I be worried about some disability? He is my one and only child so any advice will be of big help.

Hi. Thank you very much for your advice. It was very helpful. And much appreciated. Its not that I don't let him sleep at all during the day but I can only get him to sleep for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Someone has told me that some babies just need less sleep. I am only concerned about disabilities because there is a wide families history. Thank you again very mush. You really were a big help. :)

Why don't you let him nap during the day? An overtired baby will actually sleep more poorly that a well rested baby. At 18 months he should still get at least one 2-3 hour nap after lunch. Speech at this age can range from one or two words to speaking in short phrases, so that he doesn't speak much is not really abnormal. He may be aggressive and disinterested in focusing on playing because he is overtired. Unless your doctor seems concerned, or has instructed you to cut his daytime sleep down. I'd let him nap more and give him 6 months to see if his speech increases. I had four kids, one had a speech delay. At 23 months he had four words we could coax him to say, he did have speech therapy, but he was older than your son. You may be surprised how fast his verbal skills increase.
