Thanks so much Sarah, my daughter said they are going to take him to be evaluated for the hearing and speech. Very good information. I will post after he is evaluated.

This little boy was the same. What they hear is muffled, so they can follow directions but their speech is not there. It is like if you have cotton balls in your ears. You can hear just not very clearly. The ending of words are spoken softer then the beginning....thus it is harder for them to hear the ending of the word. Kids also learn a lot by our gestures and our routine. It is just like someone who has dyslexia. They make up for it being hard to read by watching and listening. What I would suggest is getting connected with your local AEA (area education agency) through the local school. They can have his hearing tested and his speech evaluated for free. If they find that he would need services in either area often times those services are also free. He is at the perfect age for help as there are MANY different things out there for him. By time he hits 3 yrs old some of those services go away.

Sarah I don't think it's that he can't hear because when I tell him to get something like "put your shoes on" he goes right over and puts them on and even puts them on the right feet.

Get his hearing checked. I watched a boy that did the same thing. He could not say the ending of his words, but if you broke them apart he could say each part. But when you put it back together he could not say it. He now has hearing aids and can say his words perfectly.
