I am a mother of 2yrs old turning 3 this december. I am so worried about my daughter language skill, i am a working mom here in abroad im not with her for almost 1 1/2 yr i left her when she was 1yr old. When i came home i feel so bad cause my daughter cant speak well. She only knows NO NO NO, NOWAY... if you talk to her she only responce no or noway. She can say a few words but my worried is shes more active on sign langguage. Many people say its my husband fault. He raise our daughter with give all what she want. Spoiled in simple term. She make tantrums when she didnt get what her wants. In public place even, she cries loud throw all things what she sees. It getting worst her development is very late. Do i need to send her to speach therapies? Help me moms.. So worried.

If your child is exposed to more than one language their speech is often delayed. That's okay. It's a wonderful and beneficial thing to know multiple languages, it just takes more time to get started on two at once. A hearing problem can also slow down speech development. It wouldn't hurt to get a hearing test done. Usually. as long as your child seems to understand what you say and as long as they are trying to communicate in other ways (by pointing, shaking their head, etc) you don't need to worry. Meeting with a speech therapist won't hurt your daughter though. A speech therapist can give you lots of ideas about how to give your daughters language development a little extra support. In general, try to sing, recite rhymes and read together. Speak in simple clear language and explain what you do and what you see to her.

Thank you CHET. Your statement makes me feel better now. What you have said is totally what my daughter is doing. Pointing finger when she wants something shaking heads when she dont want something. She can also understand intructions. She can sing ABC with rythm but not all words are clearly speak. But my daughter seems not interested when we teach her something she dont follow us back which makes me worried a lot. She follow sometimes but not often. Im from philippines and im working here in korea. Im planning just to finish my visa expiration then ill be the one to take care of her. As action, im currently searching for speach therapies. Again thank you very much.
