I'm at Witt's end here my son isn't speaking when I ask him anything he screams or yells. He listens n will follow directions but will not tell me if he is hungry or thirsty he will point to things or when he needs his diaper change he will point to it so I can change him. I'm very frustrated I have a daughter she is 2 1/2 n is a chatter box. I'm afraid he has some type of delay he also seems to speak with hands like puppets I don't know if I'm making sense here. Any advice is appreciated n welcomed

If you are in the US I would have him evaluated by your local AEA(area education agency).....your local school can connect you with them. It sounds like something else is going on and I would not just sit and wait. AEA will check his hearing, speech, neurological, and other areas. If they see a delay they will get you connected with what you need. All this is free. At 3 yrs old I would not wait though as he has already aged out of some of the resources he might have been able to use.

He has just spoken very limited this is why I am concerned his pediatrician told.me to wait that boys tend to take longer to talk,.but this has been too long I am.looking.into taking.him to speech pathologist to have him evaluated I also se autism traits I will do my best to help my son but am so.tired I try to make him repeat what I say n.nothing but a scream or yell comes out of his mouth. He's all watch educational dvd's n will repeat words tho.

You could try not responding to his needs unless he uses his words. Has he ever spoken? I'd be quite concerned if he had never spoken, but if he has previously been a talker and just no longer does so, then I'd say it is because he doesn't have to - you do for him anyway.
