Ok so we have been through a lot with my DD. She poops pretty regularly the problem is her bm's are so hard!! I realize the source of the problem is the fact that she is on a soy formula which is constipating, but she cannot tolerate milk based formula at all. Anyways here is a list of what i have tried so far: water, diluted apple juice, diluted prune-apple, diluted pear, karo syrup, flax seed oil mixed in formula. The reason none of the juices work is because they upset her belly so much. She becomes a different baby screaming in pain a few hours after any juice is given. Flax oil doesn't work because she can taste it in the bottle and refuses it. I have also done the obvious with tummy rubs, warms baths, bicycle kicks, and glycerin suppositories. The suppositories work but it doesn't soften her stool. Its not the frequency though its the consistency. So how do i soften it? I will say she is a very happy baby until she has to have a BM. I feel so bad for her because she is is such pain! Thank you for any advice!!

Hey Kami.

I would say personally, if it was my daughter and I had done everything possible that I could think of, a visit to her pediatrician/doctor would be in order. Obviously, there may be something more at play here and a doctor who specializes in these sort of symptoms would be best to treat her.

Also, have you maybe tried watered-down cranberry juice? I didn't see it mentioned in your list and thought of it. I give it to my daughter from time to time to help her out. As she can have some tough BM's on occasion. She's almost three, as well. -- Hope you can find relief for your little one soon!
